Damon Hill, OBE
We are pleased to welcome Formula One World Champion Damon Hill
as the celebrity Speaker for this years Top Marques lunch on the
opening day of the show.
Damon Hill, OBE was the Formula One World Champion of 1996 and
the winner of 22 Grand Prix’s during his Formula One career
which saw him make 122 race starts. He is the son of the late double
Formula One world champion, Graham Hill and is the only son of a
world champion to win the title.
Damon came to professional motor sports relatively late; he began
racing motorcycles in 1983 at the age of 23 and commenced his Formula
One career in 1992. He took the first of his 22 victories at the
1993 Hungarian Grand Prix for the Williams team and won the British
Grand Prix, a race his father had never won in his long and successful
career.
In 1996 Damon took eight victories and eventually the world championship.
He retired from the sport at the end of the 1999 season and in 2006,
became president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, succeeding
Jackie Stewart.
