Former BBC political editor, and multi award winner, John Sergeant is a witty performer who brings a host of anecdotes from a 30 year career in political journalism, and since famously emerging into the public eye on the receiving end of Margaret Thatcher's handbag in 1990, John has become part of Britain's public consciousness and one of the best-known faces on television.

John studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford as well as being a leading light in revues including the Edinburgh Festival. In 1966 he was chosen by Alan Bennett to appear in his award-winning BBC TV comedy series On the Margin ahead of fellow student, Michael Palin.

John has worked as a war correspondent in many of the world’s troublspots over the years, and for 12 years was the BBC's Chief Political Correspondent and has reported on all the key political issues of the day both at home and abroad.

He has now returned to his love of light entertainment and has appeared as a guest in a variety of programmes, such as Have I Got News For You (which he has chaired), Room 101 and the News Quizon Radio 4 and toured the UK with his own show, An Audience with John Sergeant.

He is the author of the best-selling Maggie: Her Fatal Legacy as well as his own memoir, Give Me Ten Seconds, which was a laugh-out loud account and sold more than 300,000 copies.

A hugely enjoyable after-dinner and conference speaker who offers comment and wit on the major issues of the day this is an event that is sure to be highly entertaining and insightful and we look forward to seeing you there.
